St Kitts and Nevis Citizenship Application in 2026: Process, Documents and Timeline

Money is half of a St Kitts application. The other half is the file, and that is where I see most delays. St Kitts is known for strict checks, so the documents have to be current, translated into English and properly certified. Here is the process in the order I walk families through it.
Step 1. The preliminary check
Before anything is paid I check three things: whether your citizenship is accepted at all, who is in the family and whether anything in the biography or the money trail will raise questions. BRIDGES runs this check free of charge before a contract. It saves the most money of any step.
Step 2. The authorised agent
The CIU accepts files only from authorised agents on its official list. The same site publishes agents who have been blacklisted, so check your agent there.
Step 3. The documents
Based on the BRIDGES checklist, every adult applicant prepares:
| Document | What to know |
|---|---|
| Passport | Copies of all pages, even blank ones, notarised and apostilled |
| Birth certificate | A new duplicate if the old one is faded |
| Marriage or divorce certificate | If a spouse is included or there was a divorce |
| Proof of address | A utility bill or bank statement, usually no older than 3 months |
| Police certificates | From every country where you lived more than 6 months in the last 10 years, for everyone aged 16 and over, no older than 6 months |
| Source of funds | A complete chain from how the money was earned to the account that pays |
| Bank reference | Recent, no older than 6 months |
| Professional reference | From a lawyer, accountant or notary who knows you |
| Medical certificate | On the programme form, with an HIV test, usually no older than 3 months |
| Photographs | Strict passport standards |
Children prepare a shorter set. If a sponsor pays, the CIU asks for a birth certificate proving the relationship and, from the sponsor, employment or company documents and a 12-month bank statement dated within six months; the sponsor also goes through due diligence. The CIU accepts cryptocurrency as a partial source of wealth, with separate proof of wealth not derived from crypto.
Step 4. Due diligence and the interview
Due diligence covers the main applicant and everyone aged 16 and over. The interview is mandatory for every main applicant. The CIU says it is conducted by an independent professional firm or by its own officials, online, in St Kitts and Nevis or at another approved location. Dependants aged 16 and over may also be invited.

Step 5. Approval in principle and the investment
The CIU reported on 1 October 2026 that the approval in principle takes 120-180 days. Only after this letter do you make the contribution or complete the property purchase.
Step 6. Biometrics and the passport
Since 14 April 2026 biometrics are part of every new application. You book an appointment once the file reaches the approval in principle stage, and everyone in the application, children included, gives fingerprints, a photograph and an iris scan. According to BRIDGES, enrolment centres operate on St Kitts and abroad, including Dubai, Istanbul and London. After that the certificate of registration and the biometric passport are issued.
Common reasons for delays
- An expired police certificate or a missing country of residence.
- Gaps in the source of funds chain.
- A reference letter that the checkers cannot verify by phone.
- A family member added late, which costs extra fees.
The full BRIDGES list is in its article on documents for St Kitts citizenship. Who can join your file is in my guide to the family. Last checked 21 October 2026.
Questions and answers
Can I apply to the CIU myself?
No. The CIU states that applications cannot be submitted directly. Only an authorised agent from the official list can file.
How long does it take?
The CIU reports 120-180 days to an approval in principle. In BRIDGES practice the whole path from the first consultation to the passport takes 5-6 months.
Is the interview mandatory?
Yes, for every main applicant. It is conducted by an independent firm or by CIU officials, online or in person. Dependants aged 16 and over may be called if the CIU considers it necessary.
