St Kitts and Nevis vs Other Caribbean Citizenship Programmes in 2026

When a family is choosing a second passport in the Caribbean, St Kitts is rarely the only option on the table. I usually lay out the neighbours side by side and then ask one question: what matters more to you, the lowest price, the fastest timeline or European travel and the reputation of the document?

Where St Kitts is stronger

  • Age and reputation. It is the oldest programme in the world, running since 1984, and it has survived several waves of tightening.
  • A recoverable option. The $325,000 share in an approved development stays your asset and can be sold after seven years.
  • Large families. The base contribution covers four people and the property threshold does not grow with the family, so for big families the gap closes.
  • Adult children. Children up to 30 can be included, which is wider than in many programmes.
  • Trust measures. Biometric passports from April 2026 and a Deloitte review of the Unit completed in its first stage in October 2026.

Where others may suit you better

  • Budget. Dominica and Antigua start lower. Antigua’s contribution also covers a family of up to four.
  • Speed. If time is critical and European travel is not the goal, Vanuatu is much faster.
  • Grenada is often compared with St Kitts for the same UK and Schengen access at a lower entry point. BRIDGES has a separate comparison of Grenada and St Kitts.

The common risk

All five Eastern Caribbean programmes, St Kitts included, received the European Commission letters of June 2026 proposing to wind down programmes by 1 June 2028. On 24 September 2025 the five countries also signed a regional agreement that, according to the government news service SKNIS, sets a region-wide minimum investment of $200,000, a regional regulator and mandatory biometrics. So whichever country you choose, I suggest building the decision on more than visa-free Europe.

Who is excluded

St Kitts does not accept citizens of Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Iraq, North Korea and Russia. Other programmes have their own lists, and BRIDGES reports that Antigua stopped accepting Russian and Belarusian citizens in 2023. Always check your passport first.

How I would choose

  1. Check which programmes accept your citizenship.
  2. Count your family: for five people or more, compare the St Kitts property option with the contributions elsewhere.
  3. Decide how much European travel matters and accept the 2028 risk honestly.
  4. Then compare timelines and total budgets, not headline numbers.

For Antigua I wrote a separate Antigua and Barbuda guide, and BRIDGES has a direct comparison of St Kitts and Antigua. The St Kitts budget in detail is in my guide to costs and fees. Last checked 21 October 2026.
